Since 1999, when we first opened as a boutique bed and breakfast hotel, the locals referred to our place as "El Castillo." It is
large, offering seven exquisite suites, and was designed by a well-known renovation architect, as an example of the Spanish
Baroque. A blend of Greek, Roman, and Moorish influences that, when brought to the "New World" became Spanish Colonial.
For those who have visited Spain or who know the culture, Alba del Castillo offers a unique and unforgettable insight into what
living in an architectural masterpiece could be like.
A fountain designed for the sound it makes, a lush courtyard seen from four of the Suites, the upper Suites oriented toward a lake and mountains in the distance, above a Mirador offers a 360 degree view of the beautiful, individually designed homes of Los Frailes, the surrounding mountains, the most glorious sunrises and sunsets, skies at times filled with Egrets, and below a vast Stone Room housing a lounge and a large TV with a library of carefully chosen films. The facility defies description and, as most of our guests remarked, its beauty far exceeds the photographs on the website. It is a Castillo, but not a cold and drafty Castle. Each suite has a heater, each bed a mattress warmer, each shower a heat-lamp in front of it, and each bed is covered with a goose-down comforter. All the modern amenities--designer bedding, down pillows, fluffy towels, etc., it is designed to make living in a Castillo a warm and sensuous experience. A gourmet breakfast in the morning comes with the room rate. You can enjoy it in your suite or in the salon as the eastern sunlight makes its way across the great, tiled floor. Look up and you will see a coffered ceiling, look out into the arcades and up at the Vegas and down along columns proportioned according to mathematical formulas laid down during the Renaissance, enjoy the fresh flowers on your table and the music playing gently in the background. Walk over and open the doors to the book case and select a book of poems, a novel, a collection of essays by world-famous authors, or select some music from a large library. It is a sumptuous experience. Look through the photographs posted on our website. They are beautiful and they do not do the architecture or the experience justice--this is our personal guarantee. We have many letters from people who have stayed at our establishment (originally called Villa del Lago), but the one that carries the most weight for us comes from an inn keeper from Bolton, Vermont, Mr. Ken Richardson. He writes as follows:
We have traveled the world and stayed at many wonderful places, and we have, with our staff, designed Alba del Castillo as a place where we ourselves would love to stay. |
